Vacation Photography
By: Author: J Bakken
One of the most popular subjects of photography are vacations. This is not
surprising as they are often full of time spent with family or friends or by
yourself exploring and seeing new places. They are often the most
anticipated time of the year and we want to capture photographs of them to
hold onto fond memories. Photographs are one way we can attempt to make time
stand still and capture a time of life that is so precious.
Some photography ideas for taking pictures during vacations include: using a
combination of black and white, sepia, and colour photographs. They all
yield different results and represent different feelings and moods. For
example, a photo of your daughter at the lake at sunset in color represents
a totally different feeling than a picture of peddler in a third world
country in black and white. Depending on where you are vacationing sets the
mood for the type of photograph you want to take.
Taking close up photos is another popular tip for vacation photography.
Often, people are so far away when they take a picture of something on
vacation that when they get their photos developed they can hardly see the
subject in the photo. Be sure you are focused on the subject and you are
close enough or you can use your zoom lens so you will see what you want to
see in the photo. No one will believe that you caught 'the big one' on your
fishing vacation if you don't have a close-up photo of it as proof.
Vacation photography is a great opportunity to take pictures of your fellow
travel companions at the special places you visit. When you share your
pictures with family and friends you don't want them to be bored looking at
yet another building or park without anyone they know in the pictures.
Balance your photography with nature scenes and ones with people in them
because they add so much character to the picture. On that note, it gets
rather boring with picture after picture with the same people standing in
the same position giving the same fake smile. You need to spice it up by
adding some different poses, facial expressions, and angles.
Taking pictures of family, friends, and pets during your vacations
throughout the year is especially popular and these photos make for great
Christmas cards and more.
Vacation photography captures a time and place in our lives where we are
experiencing something new and lets us hold onto these fond memories.
Vacation photography is something even the novice photographer or the most
experienced photographer can do and meet with success. It is hard not to
capture some beautiful shots when you have such fond memories to associate
with them.
