Seasonal Photography: Winter
By: Author: J Bakken
Each season holds its own beauty. Whether it is spring, summer, fall, or
winter, each season is unique and every single season is different.
Capturing the outdoor beauty and natural wonder of each season is both fun
and easy.
There is something about winter that is warming to the human spirit. The
crisp temperatures of this season brings people together whether it be at a
skating rink or by the fireplace enjoying a cup of hot chocolate. Capturing
photographs of the first snowman of the season or hoar frost on tree
branches are priceless treasures.
Winter photography can include freshly fallen snow on an evergreen tree, a
brightly coloured bird contrasted against the white snow sitting on a fence
post, and much more.
Winter photographs can also feature people and activities such as picking
out a Christmas tree, skating at an outdoor pond, cross country skiing,
snowboarding in the mountains, a hockey game at the local rink, and much
more.
Winter photographs of a frozen waterfall or lake, a snow covered mountain,
horses in a field as the snow falls on their backs, and numerous other
subjects can all be award winning photographs. They can be used for
calendars, cards, brochures, and much more, or simply for the enjoyment of
the photographer.
Winter photography is an opportunity to capture digital and print images of
nature as it begins its season of rest and hibernation, to be outdoors in
the cool, crisp air, and to enjoy the promise of the seasons to come.
Winter is synonymous with snow and cold temperatures in Canada and sometimes
all we need is to look at the world, whether it is through the eyes of a
child on Christmas morning or through the eyes of a senior as he comes off
the ice with his curling broom, with new eyes and we see everything as if it
were the first time and we feel a sense of peace and promise.
