Saskatchewan Landscape Photography
By: Author: J Bakken

Saskatchewan landscape photography can include both natural and man-made wonders. The beauty of natural prairie scenery includes pussy willows in spring, tiger lilies in summer, golden wheat fields in autumn, and snow-covered pine trees in winter. Old barns, abandoned wagons, and disappearing elevators make the prairie landscape very desirable for photographers. An old leaning barn with the blue sky and a golden wheat field as a backdrop is a photographer’s dream.

Saskatchewan sunsets are another favourite among prairie landscape photographers. The brilliant hues along the prairie horizon make for amazing photographs. Saskatchewan is also home to incredible northern lights, which, with the right camera, can yield amazing results in the field of prairie landscape photography. While we’re talking about the sky, we may as well include birds in this category. Saskatchewan is called “The Land of the Living Skies” because of the millions of birds that stop there during migration. Spring and summer are great times to capture photos and add birds to your prairie landscape collection.

Saskatchewan landscape photography can include the numerous lakes and all the recreation they bring. A fisherman on a lake at sunset is a captivating sight. Children playing in the sand at a beach capture the spirit of summer in the prairies. A pair of loons on a northern lake would be great prairie landscape photographs.

Saskatchewan is “Canada’s Breadbasket” and the fields of green, gold, and blue are symbolic of prairie landscape photography. Golden wheat blowing in the breeze, a field of yellow canola, or a ripe flax field make photographers stop their vehicles on the side of the road to take a picture of these prairie sights.

Other popular Saskatchewan landscape images include the abundant wildlife. Deer, antelope, elk, and moose are among the most popular animals to be photographed on the prairies. Other animals include coyotes, wolves, and bears. Many prairie calendars feature these animals. Many prairie landscape photographers go hunting for these animals armed only with their cameras.

The lifestyle of the farm and ranch life can be captured and included in the category of Saskatchewan landscape photography. A day at a ranch can yield remarkable photographs of cowboys, horses, and fence posts with lassos on them. Baby animals born on the farm in spring are very popular for calendars and magazines. There is nothing cuter than baby chicks, ducks, pigs, calves, and colts.

Saskatchewan landscape photography is an ever growing field and it has unlimited potential. So, get in your car, grab your camera, and take a picture of the beauty that the prairie boasts.
