Photography at Kananaskis
By: Author: J Bakken

The world is full of beautiful places to photograph, but one of my favorite places to photograph in Alberta is Kananaskis Country in the south west part of the province. The opportunities are endless for the avid photographer: mountains, lakes, rivers, flowers, and much more. Every season holds its own beauty and there are numerous opportunities for capturing some great photos in spring, summer, fall, or winter.
Capturing the flora and fauna is a favorite among nature enthusiasts. There are many wildflowers one can take pictures of when hiking, and you never know when you will come into the vicinity of a bear or bighorn sheep to snap a photo of if you are a safe distance away.
Kananaskis Country is well known for its year round outdoor activity opportunities. For example, you can record some great shots while kayaking, fishing, hiking, skiing, biking, snowmobiling, and much more. Taking action shots in this beautiful playground is guaranteed to yield some incredible photographs.
Some of my favorite places in Kananaskis Country to take photographs of are along the Elbow River near Paddy Flats Campground or at the Elbow Falls day use recreation area. Another place is atop Ranger Ridge where the panoramic view is breathtaking. This hiking trail is across from the Allan Bill Pond. A third location is the area right around Kananaskis Village. One can get some great shots of the golf course in the distance in the summer or some great shots of snow covered trees in the winter.
Taking photographs of an area such as Kananaskis Country makes one want to visit it again, so the pictures can easily be used in marketing. Areas where they could be used are billboards, brochures, travel magazines, and much more.
It is easy and enjoyable to take photographs of our favorite places, so the next time you visit a new locale or one of your favorites, be sure to stop and capture the beauty of the place with your camera. Then, you can revisit it again and again each time you look at the photographs.
