Pet Photography
By: Author: J Bakken
One of the most popular subjects of photography are pets. This is not
surprising as they are full of curiosity and wonder, and they are just so
darn cute. They are often a person's substitute for family or are part of
the family and they want to capture photographs of them while they are so
tiny and small and when they are older, because they grow up so fast.
Photographs are one way we can attempt to make time stand still and capture
a time of life that is so precious.
Some photography ideas for taking pictures of pets include: using a
combination of black and white, sepia, and colour photographs. They all
yield different results and represent different feelings and moods. For
example, pictures of pets such as a horse and its rider in black and white
are very popular, while a color photograph of a kitten with a ball of yarn
reflects a totally different feeling.
Using props is another popular tip for pet photography. Popular props
include: pet toys, flowers, baskets, and much more depending on the size and
type of your pet. For example, photos of a baby kitten will be much
different than photos of your favorite horse. Catching a kitten or puppy
snuggled up inside a basket can make for a very precious photograph. Or
capturing a picture of a mare at sunset can be breathtaking.
Pet photography can also include other members of the family, especially mom
and dad and their children. Often family photos include the family pet.
Outdoor family photos often include someone holding the family dog, or
pictures of the entire family on horseback is not uncommon and represents a
lifestyle.
Taking pictures of pets during the different holiday seasons throughout the
year is especially popular and these photos make for great greeting cards.
For example, pictures of pets laying beside bright orange pumpkins are
popular fall photos at Thanksgiving or Halloween. Pets with a red and white
Santa hat on are often seen on Christmas greeting cards. Pictures of pets
sitting inside an Easter basket surrounded by Easter eggs is a common
springtime Easter photo. These are just a few of the many ideas you can use
when taking pet pictures during the holidays.
Pet photography is something that can be done in the comfort of your own
home or at a professional studio. Pet photography is something even the
novice photographer or the most experienced photographer can do and meet
with success. It is hard not to capture some beautiful shots when you have
such playful subjects to photograph.
