Lobster Fishing
By: Author: J Bakken
On a rainy and foggy July day in 2005, my family and I were exploring the
Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. We stopped at one little fishing village and
spotted a lone fisherman checking his lobster traps. I snapped away with my
digital camera and captured the red and white boat surrounded by nothing but
water, fog, mist, and seagulls. If you look closely in the photos you can
see a few buoys floating in the water identifying the locale of the lobster
traps in the sea below.
I learned a lot about lobster fishing on our Maritime holiday and enjoyed
its succulent taste on a few occasions, but I wasn't fortunate enough to
actually try my hand at lobster fishing. Perhaps on my next visit.
The next time I go to Cape Breton, I would like to go in the fall, so I can
witness the majestic beauty of the autumn foliage in hues of red, orange,
and gold. We spent two days exploring the Cabot Trail that July, and
unfortunately, both days were foggy and rainy, a common phenomenon I am
told. The weather, however, did not dampen our spirits or our enjoyment of
exploring this beautiful place that is a favourite of Alexander Graham
Bell's.
