Child Photography
By: Author: J Bakken
One of the most popular subjects of photography are children. This is not
surprising as they are full of innocence and wonder, and they are just so
darn cute. They are often a parent's most proud accomplishment and they want
to capture photographs of them while they are small, because they grow up so
fast. Photographs are one way we can attempt to make time stand still and
capture a time of life that is so precious.
Some photography ideas for taking pictures of children include: using a
combination of black and white, sepia, and colour photographs. They all
yield different results and represent different feelings and moods. For
example, pictures of children dressed up in adult clothing (oversize hats,
gloves, shoes, etc.) in black and white are very popular, while a color
photograph of a child sitting in a red wagon reflects a totally different
feeling.
Using props is another popular tip for child photography. Popular props
include: dress up clothes, flowers, wagons, sports paraphenelia, and much
more. Children holding a sunflower or gerbera daisy, or sitting beside a
football tell a different story. Toddlers or young children sitting inside a
wagon with perhaps another prop is another unique idea that many parents or
professional photographers try.
Child photography can also include other members of the family, especially
mom and dad. A popular pose is the family laying down on the grass if you
are outdoors or on the floor if you are inside and just smiling as if you
were in the middle of your backyard or living room. Photographing siblings
together is a challenge because they can be so active, but incredible shots
can be attained with patience.
Taking pictures of children during the different holiday seasons throughout
the year is especially popular and these photos make for great greeting
cards, thank you cards, and more. For example, pictures of children sitting
beside bright orange pumpkins are popular fall photos at Thanksgiving or
Halloween. Children with red and white Santa hats on are often seen on
Christmas greeting cards. These are just a few of the many ideas you can use
when taking children's pictures during the holidays.
Child photography is something that can be done in the comfort of your own
home or at a professional studio. Child photography is something even the
novice photographer or the most experienced photographer can do and meet
with success. It is hard not to capture some beautiful shots when you have
such cute subjects to photograph.
