Alberta Landscape Photography
By: Author: J Bakken
Alberta landscape photography can include both natural and man-made wonders. The beauty of natural Alberta scenery includes pussy willows in spring, wild roses in summer, golden wheat fields in autumn, and snow-covered mountains in winter. The Rocky Mountains make the Alberta landscape very desirable for photographers. White and yellow daisies with the blue sky and the mountains as a backdrop are a photographer’s dream. An old leaning barn with a wagon can also give a western flavour to Alberta’s landscape photography potential.
Alberta wildflowers are another favourite among Alberta landscape photographers. The brilliant hues and incredible assortment make for amazing photographs. Alberta is also home to incredible rivers and lakes, which, with the right camera, can yield amazing results in the field of Alberta landscape photography. While we’re talking about the water, we may as well include waterfalls in this category. Go on a hike anywhere in the Rockies and you’ll find great opportunities for captivating photos of waterfalls. Summer is a great time to capture the power of the falls and winter is an opportune time to capture unique frozen waterfalls. These make great additions to your Alberta landscape collection.
Alberta landscape photography can include the numerous lakes and all the recreation they bring. A fisherman on a lake at sunset is a captivating sight. Children playing in the sand at a beach capture the spirit of summer in Alberta. Canada geese on a northern lake make for great Alberta landscape photographs. Don’t even get me started on all the potential in our national parks.
Alberta is oil country and the fields of green and gold adorned with pump jacks are symbolic of Alberta landscape photography. Golden wheat fields blowing in the breeze, a field of yellow canola, or a ripe flax field with an oil rig or a pump jack in them make photographers stop their vehicles on the side of the road to take a picture of these popular Alberta sights.
Other popular Alberta landscape images include the abundant wildlife. Mountain goats, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, and moose are among the most popular animals to be photographed in the province. Other animals include coyotes, wolves, and bears. Many calendars feature these animals as numerous landscape photographers go hunting for these animals armed only with their cameras.
The ranch lifestyle can be captured and included in the category of Alberta landscape photography. A day at a ranch can yield remarkable photographs of cowboys, horses, and fence posts with lassos on them. Baby animals born on the farm or ranch in spring are very popular for calendars and magazines. There is nothing cuter than baby chicks, ducks, pigs, calves, and colts.
Alberta landscape photography is growing as fast as our province and it has unlimited potential. So, get in your car, grab your camera, and take a picture of the beauty that the Alberta boasts.
